President-Elect Joe Biden has selected Pete Buttigieg to serve as the next Secretary of Transportation. The selection of the former Mayor of South Bend, Indiana is an exciting choice to serve in this important role.
As Mayor, Pete was a strong supporter of advancing Transportation Demand Management (TDM) initiatives to support his efforts to rebuild South Bend’s aging downtown and support economic activity through new infrastructure investments. This included the adoption of Complete Streets and Smarter Streets initiatives. South Bend also received a grant from the Bloomberg Mayor’s Challenge to implement a commuter benefits program in partnership with local employers. This program was featured in ACT’s July webinar Driving Participation, Scale & Innovation From a Mobility Framework.
