We work with members and community partners to plan and manage safe, convenient, and economical transportation & parking options to better coordinate land use, reduce environmental impacts and boost economic vitality.

CATMA is a non-profit 501(c)(3), membership based, transportation management association serving Chittenden County.

We administer and manage customized, transportation demand management (TDM) programs that offer a better way to get to work, save money, reduce parking challenges and congestion, and cut carbon emissions. We’ll help you get there.

Our Plan

The Board of Directors and Staff of CATMA engaged in a strategic planning process in early 2019. The resulting strategic plan represents the culmination of data gathered and reflects realistic goals and strategies as identified by those closely associated with the work of CATMA. The plan is intended to guide CATMA through the next three years the and the organization will grow strategically in response to the areas identified in the plan.

History of CATMA

In 1992, Champlain College, University of Vermont Medical Center and the University of Vermont agreed to share resources as well as jointly plan, develop, and manage all transportation and parking programs, infrastructure, and associated facilities, through the formation of the Campus Area Transportation Management Association (CATMA). This joint planning yielded coordinated land use planning conforming to the Municipal Development Plans for the cities of Burlington and South Burlington and the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission’s ECOS Plan.

While “The Hill” institutions have been collaborating to reduce traffic, parking issues, and emissions since 1992 through their investment and commitment to CATMA and TDM, Chittenden County has experienced steady growth. The increase in population brings traffic congestion, degradation of air quality, and constant need for land use planning that incorporates the ideals of “smart growth.” CATMA’s successful business model and leadership is now offered county-wide and our name has changed to Chittenden Area Transportation Management Association (still CATMA).
