GMT Fares Return on 5/20: What you need to know

Starting Monday, May 20th Green Mountain Transit will resume collecting fares

Fares return on the following routes: Chittenden County local service, Chittenden County commuter service (Milton Commuter, Jeffersonville Commuter), and LINK Express service (Montpelier LINK, St. Albans LINK). CATMA wanted to share a few NEED TO KNOWS about the new fare system. Ride Ready by GMT is the new way to pay for fares that will make your commute smoother.

Three Ways to Pay

The Ride Ready by GMT app is now available!
Download the app from the App Store or Google Play. Create an account and add funds or connect a card and pay as you go. When you’re ready to ride activate your ticket, then scan the barcode on the glass validator on the farebox. And you’re all set!

Ride Ready by GMT smart card (physical, re-loadable card)
Smart cards are available at the Downtown Transit Center and at the GMT administrative office (101 Queen City Park Road, Burlington) for those without smartphone access. You can add funds and check your balance at the information booth or online at RideGMT.com/RideReady. When you’re ready to ride, tap your card to the top of the farebox, and you’re all set!

Contactless payment
With Ride Ready you can use any of the following contactless payments. When you’re ready to ride, tap your card to the top of the farebox, and you’re all set!

New Fares with fare capping (no more transfers)

*GMT can not cap cash fares.

When you use the Ride Ready by GMT app, a GMT smartcard, or contactless open payments (credit/debit, Apple Pay, and Google Pay), your rides will be free after you reach a total of $4.00 per day/$2.00 a day for discount fare riders.

Cash fare cannot be capped.

Passengers who only want to use cash are encouraged to obtain a GMT smartcard, as you can load cash onto your card at the Downtown Transit Center, GMT Administrative Office, or the Montpelier Transit Center. When you reach $50.00 regular fare|25.00 discount fare, your remaining rides for a month will be free.

Employer Transit Program

University of Vermont Medical Center provides 50% subsidy per-trip. Discounted funds can be added to your Ride Ready by GMT app account through the Security Office with pre-tax payroll deduction benefit. If you do not have access to a smart phone, there is an alternate option with the use of GMTs Ride Ready smartcard.

All Champlain College faculty, staff and students ride any GMT bus for Free. To ride fare free you must SWIPE your Champlain ID through the farebox.

University of Vermont faculty, staff and students ride any GMT bus for Free. To ride fare free you must show your CatCard (virtual or physical) to the bus driver. This system will be in place until July 1, 2024. On or around, June 17, UVM will provide eligible riders with instructions on how to continue to access the fare free benefit after July 1.To stay up-to-date please visit: http://uvm.edu/transportation/ride-green-mountain-transit-uvm

City of Burlington union employees working in City Hall, BCA (Church St location only) and part-time library employees are eligible for paid transit commute, 5 days per month. $10/monthly incentive. Download the Ride Ready by GMT app, use your city employer email address to access the incentive. If you have questions, please contact the HR Department.
